Hi. The wife here.

Whoa. Did I just completely hijack Brian's blog and rename it A Wife's Tale?

Teehee.

Okay, so I'll change it. That is, after Brian sees it and tries to rename it to He-man and Sheila or something crazy. Wait, are they brother and sister? Aw whatever.

Hi peeps! Sarah here. I thought it was about time I spiced up this blog a bit, and after getting the courage from Lizzle, here I am! Don't get me wrong, Brian does a great job of keeping you updated on all our adventures and writes really well if this was a thesis about climbing mountains but it just needs some Bishop wife love. Yeah. That's it!

So I believe when Brian originally started this blog he put some restrictions on what he would post, and mostly would write about us, uhhh, climbing mountains. I, however, reserve the right to write about whatever I want. Yay for being the wife! I'm not sure what that, err, will consist of. Maybe I'll write about that guy running next to me on the treadmill at the gym who's trying to race me (I should tell him that neither of us are actually moving at all, but I'm not going to be the one to disappoint him), or perhaps I'll post occasionally about the part of my life I call As the Turbine Turns, or maybe I'll give my highly valued opinion on the reality TV garbage I watch, or perhaps divulge how many times I've vacuumed the couch on any given day because Bella gets up there all the time when she's not supposed to and sheds her entire coat.  But you know what my favorite topic to write about would be? How crazy madly in love I am with Brian. Err, so that probably wouldn't be very interesting.

So instead, maybe I'll write about what life is like with Brian instead. Because that could be a blog in itelf. Oh, and that whole sleeping on the couch thing Brian always talks about? That man wouldn't budge from our king bed if I was snoring like an elephant and sleeping diagonal. Because I never do that... So yes. I am here to add some sweet and SPICE! Stay tuned for more to come!

Spelling, grammar, and girlification

So at or around the beginning of the year (the 14th of January to be exact), the congress of Doug Blocksma voted to ratify the 19th amendment of Blogging, and as such, Liz was given the rights to desecrate Doug's blog.
Seeing Liz's new found freedom to girlify Doug's blog, Sarah is now demanding the same right on my blog.  But since I'm more of a man than Doug, I decided to stand up for my rights (by "stand-up" I mean quickly cave into her demands and beg for forgiveness for ever thinking otherwise, much like every other demand in our marriage).  In the near future, the format of this blog may change.  The color palette will become softer, a little more subtle (most likely featuring some pastels), and some of the posts will feature things that I would never venture to force upon you, such as proper spelling and correct grammar.  She may even forgo the use of incomplete sentances and run-on sentances in favor of paragraphs and complete thoughts.
I, already, and not a fan of the new format that actually hasn't even happend yet, but if I actually had my way, I'd probably be sleeping on the couch.  Man do I hate sleeping on the couch...

Quandry Peak

Last weekend, Sarah and I decided that we wanted to snow shoe up Quandry Peak, which is one of Colorado's 14ers. We headed out early Saturday morning and drove to the trail head which is about 35 minutes south of Breckenridge, CO.
The hike started out in a dense pine forest, but quickly started thinning out as we reach the treeline. After about an hour of hiking, we were past the treeline and out onto the open ridge. Before we left, we checked the forecast and knew that it might be a little windy, but "little" was an understatement. The gusts were to about 40mph, right into our face. We hastily put on every layer that we brought with us, and it quickly became apparent to me that I forgot my ski goggles. I had some wicked sun/wind-burn to remind me of that mistake.
After about an hour of battling the wind uphill, it started to subside and the going got easier. Well, not really, because just as the wind died, it started to get really steep. That last push to the summit really took it out of us, and it was apparent that neither of us had gotten out of the house in quite a while. The views from the summit were amazing, and after eating a peanut butter and honey sandwich, we beat a hasty retreat from the summit. After only a few minutes at the top, our water started to freeze and all of our layers couldn't keep our extremities warm. The trip down a 14er is so much easier in the winter than in the summer. During the summer months, heading down the trail is a combination of constantly trying not to fall or twist an ankle, combined with someone using a sledgehammer on your knees. In the winter, however, especially on snow shoes, it's like frolicking down a gentle hill on pillows of love. It's that easy. You can take giant, leaping steps and you just sink into the snow. Much more pleasant. This weekend Sarah and I took a small weekend vacation together to Crested Butte, CO. Our favorite mountain town. We took off on Thursday afternoon and got to Crested Butte in a little over 4 hours. I had reserved a room at a small place called the Purple Mountain B&B. The place was fantastic, the owner was great, and the food was amazing. On Friday Sarah and I headed to the mountain for a full day of skiing. It had been a few days since they'd received any new snow, so there wasn't much powder to ski on, but we had a blast on all of the groomers. On Saturday we intended to get out and do some snow shoeing above town on the Green Mountain Trail. After breakfast however, I cozied up with a book and some locally roasted coffee, while Sarah jumped back in bed to catch up on some well deserved rest. We ended up just relaxing and hanging around town which made for an amazing day.
Now we're back in Denver, wishing we were still in the CB, but hopefully we'll get back there soon... Oh, and by soon, I mean we're in the process of buying a condo there... stay tuned.
